Guess what time of year it is again boys and girls…
it’s time I get on the train from here
and go to here….
Hello St Ives…
Mother, her BAE and I needed a drunching session and where else better then the newly opened ‘Porthminster Kitchen’. The sister restaurant Porthminster Beach Cafe serves my favourite pudding Pimms Demotion and has never failed to keep me there until I am rolled out, so I had high expectations for this place…
clean chic interior …interesting shirt choice in the top right there sir.
we sat on the balcony which overlooked the harbor and gave us a base for people watching for the day.
The menu is your bog standard: starter, mains and pudding however they also give you the option to have appetiser. We wanted a long afternoon so we decided to dosharing appetisers and starters so the kitchen had to wash a few more plates that day which we are very sorry about.
There are two people in life: sophisticated and not sophisticated. The sophisticated eat olives. end of. These were mixed with honey and thyme with shavings of goats cheese. They tasted heavenly… hence the reason I have edited it like a RIP photo.
HOLD THE PHONE! No drunch can start without the bloody….
ah here it is…
well..well..well...what the hell is this? your must be thinking…presenting the bloody consommé
Sweat test: 9 An unexpected kick for sure
Garnishes: 8 the herbs went well with the style of the consommé, wouldn’t have looked good with the whole bloody party.
Glass: 8 a classic tumbler which also was the right fit.
Taste: 6 so the hint of the bloody mary was there, my only issue was how watery it was.
Overall: 8 I love when a twist like this happens. It was as if they had made the ‘beach bloody mary’ a perfect solution for a hangover by the sea-side.
Now…. we can continue…
English Mustard Pork Crackle, Polgoon Cider Apple Sauce
…I don’t need to say much as it was like one good English hug. You know when you don’t order chips so you don’t look but take a couple of your dates. if my date left the room. I would devour this bucket and blame it on the seagull.
Popcorn, FoieGras ,Bacon Dust.
Fried Prawn Skewers, Sesame – Yuzu – Fresh English Wasabi.
we left the pig alone now after it’s been crackled and turned into dust. If there was three of these skewers this would have been great but they were already munched before I could grab one…. then spoken about for the rest of the meal of ‘how good they were’ . Thanks guys.
Mackerel Paté Seaweed Soda Bread.
Salt Baked Baby Beetroots Liquorice – Pomegranate Crumbs (mummy’s favourite)
so now let’s move to the starters…
Dexter Beef Tartar English Wasabi – Chives.
Can I just point out the well behaved egg yolk in the centre with the wasabi balancing on the top like some evil emperor.
Pan Fried Baby Squid, Wild Garlic – Pink Pepper – Lemon – Boquerone
Crab & Cucumber Cannelloni – Bloody Mary Consomme
Poached Chicken. Burnt Sweet Corn – Cured Egg Yolks – Creamed Leeks.
Scallops. Bacon, Cauliflower, Macaroni Cheese , Truffle.
This was the best dish for presentation. Not only was the flavours were perfect but what a dish to eat whilst over looking the beach!
Would you like to see the dessert menu?
...erm yes
Fudged Bananas Smashed Chia Seed Panacotta – Fudge – Black Cinder Toffee (Richard’s man dessert)
Three English Apple Salad. Apple Granita – Sparkling Jelly – Yoghurt Candy.
This was my dish, A great, fresh summer and (sort of) healthy pudding. Perhaps Mrs Beckham may approve?
Triple Chocolate Meringue Pie Valrohna Chocolate – Milk – Tonka Bean Sorbet
A show stopper to say the least and every PMSing woman’s dream…
Finally we were full and ready to roll out.
